COCOA Vietnam Newsletter June/July 2011
It is that time of year again. Yearly financial report to be done , report to the Government here on what we have achieved in the last 6 months and what we plan to do in the next 6 months, report to PACCOM and request for the renewal of our 12 monthly Permit of Operation. Then I have to hope and pray that I receive the Permit before my visa expires in August. Nothing in life ever seems to get any easier.
Over the last 2 months we have been able to complete the 2 houses in Dong Tam Village and hand them over. We had a small Handing over Ceremony on Wednesday the 13th in Dong Tam Village. The Ceremony was attended by the Vice Chairman of the Village People’s Committee and the local leader, who is also the builder.

Being the wet season, the roads are getting non negotiable in some areas and we have had problems getting to another house in Dong Tien Village that was nearly completed just before the rains came. Now we have to wait until around November before we can do a final check. The car did some slip sliding around when we went to the Dong Tam Village Ceremony on Wednesday.

Drilling for water in Tan Phuoc Village Tan Phuoc Village COCOA has 2 programs under way in Tan Phuoc Village at the moment. A house is being constructed and a well is being drilled. On our last visit, the house construction was going well as can be seen in the above photo. Unfortunately, the drilling contractor has been unable to find water and he has drilled down past 40m, so he is considering trying in another location. |

This is the home of a mother and her 3 daughters living near the new house being constructed in Tan Phuoc Village. No water, bathroom, toilet or cooking area. I am considering suggesting that she be approved a new house when COCOA funds become available. |
